Founded in 1793, the multicultural town of Chapel Hill is full of history and character. As its name suggests, the town was developed over a hill and is centered around The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Hence, the town is also part of the state’s prestigious Research Triangle. Chapel Hill has many buildings and districts that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There is much traditional architecture in Chapel Hill, however, the town has a long history of modernism too. Homes here focus on natural light and landscaping and are very open to bringing the outdoors in. Although Chapel Hill is one of North Carolina’s smaller towns, it has some of the best activities and attractions in the state.

Since Chapel Hill is a college town, it has quite a spirited and lively atmosphere. There is always something to do in Chapel Hill, which makes it a fun place to be. Franklin Street is the town’s social spot, as it is lined with trendy shops, restaurants, and bars. The nightlife in Chapel Hill is marvelous, with hangouts like Top of the Hill Brewery and Whiskey River Bar among local favorites. Lantern blends Asian flavors and North Carolina ingredients for a fusion unlike any other. Vintage eatery Suttons is a UNC Tar Heel tradition serving up handcrafted burgers, hot dogs, sodas, and shakes. Halloween on Franklin Street is a yearly extravaganza in which students and residents alike gather to celebrate the spooky holiday. Costumes are a key part of this massive event and many attendees seek out the most bizarre styles possible. Kenan Memorial Stadium is another Chapel Hill staple. The stadium is the home field of the North Carolina Tar Heels football team. Chapel Hill has no shortage of sporting events, as the town is well-known for the university’s outstanding basketball teams. UNC Health is a big part of the local economy and community too, providing jobs and health care to residents throughout the state.

As mentioned, Chapel Hill is home to the prestigious UNC-Chapel Hill, which was the nation’s first public university and is now a world-renowned educational institution.
